Established in 2005 in McLaren Vale, South Australia, the name Mollydooker – Aussie slang for a left-handed boxer – was a fitting choice given the majority of the team, including owner Sarah, were left-handed. The company has been recognised for its business success, being chosen as the South Australian Business of the Year in 2019. Its Carnival of Love Shiraz has been listed a record three times in Wine Spectator’s Top 10 Wines in the World. Using its success, Mollydooker’s passion is about making a difference to the lives of those less fortunate through ‘sipping it forward’. Each year, a portion of its proceeds is directed towards supporting its local and international communities.
We will taste:
The Boxer Shiraz 2020 — “The Boxer always punches well above his Fruit Weight™. Did you notice he has two left-handed gloves?” Complex and expressive, this Shiraz is vivacious while maintaining length and finish. Black licorice, kirsch and Kalamata olive notes are dense and dark, but give way to plush blackberry, blueberry and Earl Grey tea accents. Black cherries, fresh plum, rich dark chocolate and liquorice max out the flavour spectrum. Well-measured tannins and slightly toasted oak compliment the rich fruit, creating a wine with many layers. 16% ABV.
The Scooter Merlot 2020 — “The Scooter was named after Sparky, who raced a big tyre scooter when he was younger.” Brilliant ruby red in color with a bright cherry and violet nose, the 2020 Scooter is tantalizing from the outset. The first sip fills the palate with intense red fruit like raspberries and fresh plum. As these vibrant flavors continue to develop on the palate, soft tannins complement notes of mocha cream and dried herbs. 15.5% ABV.
Two Left Feet Red Blend 2019 — “Two Left Feet is what can happen when you dance after a glass or two of Mollydooker.” Ripe fruits of dark cherry, blackberry, plum and raspberry are complimented by the secondary notes of vanilla and mixed spices. The silky, satin like fruit profile, encompassed by lovely ripe tannins, cascades effortlessly through the palate providing fantastic depth. Blend: 69% Shiraz, 16% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. 16% ABV.
The Shake — Nitrogen is used in MD’s winemaking process to protect the wine and to minimize sulphites. If you think of flavour like a big round ball, nitrogen flattens that ball. So by doing the shake, the nitrogen is released and the flavour ball pops back out to its full size.
All wines are regularly $41, now $34.99/$11.50.
See you Friday!!
