French (and Italian) wines can be great partners for Turkey dinner.
We will sample:
Domaine Dutron Saint Veran Chardonnay 2020, Burgundy — 100% Chardonnay. The Dutron family has been making wine at their 40-acre estate in the town of Fuissé since 1835. Vines are an average of 35 years old and are grown on slopes of clay and limestone. Light yellow to pale gold color. Bright aromas of stone fruits, honeysuckle and fern with deeper notes of almonds, cinnamon, butter and honey. Flavors of exotic and citrus fruits, with a dry, well-rounded and full-bodied palate. Good minerality and smooth with good balance. 14.1% ABV. $28.99/$9.50
Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf de Pape 2012 , Rhone — Blend: Grenache (80%), with the balance shared among Syrah, Mourvèdre, and small bunches of Cinsault and Counoise. Domaine du Grand Tinel is one of the largest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, though it remains a very hands-on boutique operation by virtue of its relatively small production and the fact that it remains a family run winery. Nearly all of Tinel’s 136 acres are devoted to the production of the estate’s highly acclaimed CNDP. Kirsch, plum, and hints of savory herb abound in the bouquet. In the mouth, deep black fruit flavors mixed with Provençal herbs, fennel, and smoked meat flavors entertain the palate, while fine grained tannins provide a long, satisfying finish that bodes well for the wine’s longevity. Although powerful and full-bodied due to traditional winemaking and the predominance of old-vine Grenache, still exhibits brightness and suavity. 15% ABV. Regularly, $52.99, now $38.99/$13
