"Tried and True in Tuscany" Complimentary Wine Tasting

  • Craft'd 108 West Union Street Morganton, NC, 28655 United States (map)

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best wines. Owing to optimal geological and climatic conditions, the wineries of the region produce high-quality wines with a unique touch. We will taste:

ColleMassari Melacce Vermentino 2021 — Wine has been made in Montecucco since the time of the Etruscans in the 8th century, though it recently received DOCG status. ColleMassari produced its first vintage in 2000 and in 2014 the group was named Cellar of the Year by the prestigious and renowned Gambero Rosso guide. 100% Vermentino with a fruity-fresh first sip. Aromas of Granny Smith apple, white peach and sweet limes with a hint of exotic fruits. Hint of white pepper. Medium-bodied, crisp and dry on the palate with good minerality. Bright acidity and a savory finish. Rating: 91, James Suckling. ABV: 14%. $18.50/$6.50

Castellare Chianti Classico 2021 — The Castellare property, located in Tuscany’s Castellina in Chianti, has become a virtual refuge for wildlife, including many of the birds pictured on their labels. With each vintage, the Castellare label shows a different bird, symbolizing the estate’s commitment to environmentally sound cultivation. A bright ruby red in color, this Chianti shows well-integrated aromas of tart red cherries, tobacco, sunbaked earth, and a hint of cedar spice. On the palate, firm structure and refreshing acidity make it a very versatile food wine. Snappy sour-cherry flavors are infused with tangy acidity and bright notes of orange peel. Light and lively. Blend: 95% Sangioveto, 5% Canaiolo. Rating: 90, Wine & Spirits. 13.5% ABV. $28.99/$9.50

Casanova di Neri Irrosso Toscana 2021 — Casanova di Neri was founded by Giovanni Neri, a 48-year-old grain merchant from the town of Montevarchi in the south of Florence. Passionate about wine, Neri had long dreamed of making a great Italian red, and although the long-established wine zone of Chianti Classico was just on his doorstep, it was remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese wines that fascinated him. This Toscana is made primarily from relatively young Brunello (Sangiovese) grapes (85%) blended with a small portion of Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. A bright purplish ruby red in color. On the nose, there are spicy notes and intense small red fruits. A nice tannic structure, which makes it highly drinkable, is in harmony with its beautiful softness. 14.5% ABV. $28.99/$9.50
