Just Lighten Up Complimentary Tableside Wine Tasting

  • Craft'd 108 West Union Street Morganton, NC, 28655 United States (map)

Join us for a Riesling tasting. We will compare three of these delicious whites from the Nik Weis winery.

Founded in 1947, Nik Weis – St. Urbans-Hof has become one of the most important and classic wineries in the Mosel region of Germany. Since 2000, the Riesling winery is member of Germany’s renowned VDP (Association of German Quality Wine Estates). The approximately 45 hectares of vineyards stretch for around 60 km along the Mosel and Saar rivers and are cultivated in a traditional manner in harmony with nature. Five of the prestigious individual crus, in which world-class Rieslings grow, are classified as Wines from Great Sites (VDP.Grosse Lage). The wines are fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts.

We will be tasting:

2018 St. Urbans-Hof Nik Weis Mosel Urban Riesling -- $17.99
Whiffs of smoke and apple introduce this intensely spicy, earthen sip. Semi-dry in style, it's a peppy, light-bodied Riesling chock-full of concentrated pear, apple and lemon flavors. The finish is edged by a hint of bitter tea tannins and lingering earth tones. Best now–2023. Rating: 88, Wine Enthusiast

2018 Riesling St. Urbans-Hof Nik Weis Estate Bottled Old Vines Riesling (Mosel) -- $20.99
Shades of cut minerals and earth lend complexity to sunny white peach and grapefruit here. Luscious fruit flavors are calibrated by spine-tingling lime acidity and a mineral tang akin to a fruit-flavored vitamin. Off dry in style, it should drink well through 2023. Rating: 88, Wine Enthusiast

2018 St. Urbans-Hof Nik Weis Goldtröpfchen Kabinett Grosse Lage Riesling -- $32.00
Hints of earth and dried, savory herb lend piquant spice to this fruity, citrusy kabinett. Flavors of yellow cherry, tangerine and lemon are penetrating and mouthwatering, edged by streaks of honey and a dusty mineral finish. Approachable now but likely to improve further from 2022. Rating: 89, Wine Enthusiast

In an effort to accommodate our own sense of social responsibility, we are continuing with tableside tastings. C'mon in when you're ready. Masks are still required upon entry, until you are seated, and if you need to get up.

As always, feel free to bring snacks and dinner in with you, but please dispose of your own trash (garbage can in back of store). Thanks y'all, see you Friday!
