Lava Cap is a third-generation family farm located high in the Sierra Nevada foothills at an elevation of 2700 feet. The estate mountain-grown grapes are sourced from some of the highest vineyards in California. Unique volcanic soils, weathered from ancient ash flows, produce wines that are intensely aromatic and luscious with deep, rich fruit erupting with flavor.
We will taste:
Sauvignon Blanc 2019 — Rich and expressive, greets the nose with melon, lychee, grapefruit, and figgy aromas. Subdued but tangy flavors of green apple, mineral and mild herb. The finish is plush and long, with ample acidity. Medium-bodied and well- balanced. Rating: 90, Wine Enthusiast. $23.99/$9
Merlot 2018 — Forest greenery, herb and lemongrass aromas along with wild berry, plum and dark cherry. Toasted oak, well-concentrated black-cherry and bell pepper flavors fill the palate. Bright acidity defines a nicely focused finish. This firmly structured wine shows a good tannic grip in the texture. Best through 2026. Rating: 89, Wine Enthusiast. $22.99/$8
Zinfandel Reserve 2018 — Subtle notes of briar and spice which quickly give way to aromas of raspberry liqueur and black cherry. Layers of blackberry and black cherry fruit. A warm, luscious finish lingers on with sweet vanilla oak, cranberry and raspberry flavors. Robust, bold and firmly structured and moderately tannic. Well balanced and can easily improve with a few years of age. Rating: 92, Wine Enthusiast. $24.99/$10
