A large and geographically diverse AVA capable of producing a wide variety of wine styles, the Columbia Valley AVA is home to 99% of Washington state’s total vineyard area.
Nine Hats refers to the winery’s portfolio of nine uniquely sophisticated wines, with grapes meticulously sourced from many of the best vineyards in the Columbia Valley.
We will taste:
2019 Riesling — Sourced from German clone plantings and some of the Columbia Valley’s oldest Riesling vines, this wine offers classic and distinctive Riesling character. Notes of citrus, jasmine, pear and honeydew melon combine with an appealing level of minerality and acidity to provide a fresh and lengthy finish. ABV 13.4%. Rating: 90, James Suckling. $21.99/$7.50
2019 Red Blend — 50% Cabernet Sauvignon 26% Merlot 24% Malbec. A multi-layered blend with intense aromatics and flavors of black cherries, dark chocolate, and oak spice. A rich but refined texture with vibrant black fruit notes. Cabernet Sauvignon from Weinbau Vineyard and McNary Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA provides a firm backbone and silky texture, while Merlot from Weinbau fills the mid-palate and adds layers of complexity and spice. 14.4% ABV. Rating: 90, James Suckling. $26.99/$9
2018 Cabernet Sauvignon — 77% Cabernet Sauvignon 17% Merlot 6% Malbec. Richly structured with vibrant aromatics of black cherry, espresso beans and bittersweet chocolate. It is a multi-layered wine with expressive flavors of black and red berries complemented by notes of savory spice. Its luscious mouthfeel persists across a lengthy finish. Several vineyard sites throughout the Columbia Valley, mostly on the Wahluke Slope, were selected to source the fruit that provides its depth and complexity. Aged 11 months in French oak prior to bottling. ABV 14.9%. Rating: 90, James Suckling. $26.99/$9
