El Enemigo is produced at Piedemonte al Sur, located in southern foothills of Maipu, Mendoza in Argentina. The facility is named for the unique aspect of Mendoza’s high-altitude winemaking region nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. El Enemigo translates as “the enemy” — a nod to the fact that, at the end of any journey, most remember only one battle: the one fought within (the original enemy). This is the battle that defines us. The wines of El Enemigo are a tribute to those internal battles that make us who we are. We will taste:
Chardonnay 2019 — 100% Chardonnay. Dry weather (precipitations 20-60% lower than usual), small berries and slightly lower yields with cooler temperatures. The 2019 harvest happened about 1-3 weeks earlier than usual, and the grapes were in pristine condition with not a drop of botrytis or downy mildew. A dense palate of beautiful, ripe lemons and apples. Layered and refined with phenolic tension. Complex yeast and hints of oak and flor. Racy, saline and yeasty, with a core of acidity, subtle oak and a long, tapering finish. This is a boundary-pushing white for Argentina. 13.5% ABV. $31.50/$10.50
Cabernet Franc 2018 — 92% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec. Ruby red in color with soft violet tones. The nose has intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, and sweet spices including black pepper and cloves. This tenure provides integrated oak notes of cedar and vanilla. Fresh impact and excellent structure on the palate, reminiscent of ripe red fruits with hints of eucalyptus and tagged black pepper. Balance and elegant with a well-structured, persistent finish. 13.5% ABV. $31.50/$10.50
Syrah-Viognier 2018 — 92% Syrah, 8% Viognier. “El Año Mendocino” — the Mendoza Year. After a small cool vintage in 2017 (the Bordeaux Year) and a small, very cool and rainy year in 2016 (the Burgundian year), 2018 is finally a vintage that is classically Mendozan: dry, cool, sunny and with moderate yields in every region from the lowest to the highest altitudes. Bright purple in hue, this Cote Rotie-style Syrah offers aromas of dark fruit, spices, blackberry, blueberry and pepper with hints of smoke and a whiff of something floral.Relaxed but compact on the palate with fine tannins that help structure the flow. It has a mild, juicy freshness that leaves the mouth full of flavor while a gentle touch of chalk brings texture. 13.5% ABV. $31.50/$10.50
Peace out. See you Friday!
