Eberle wines have showcased the history and diverse flavors of the Paso Robles Appellation since 1979. Gary Eberle grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and went to Penn State on a football scholarship. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in biology, he attended LSU where he continued his graduate work in cellular genetics. While there, he developed an appreciation for wine and changed his course of study to winemaking. This launched his career as a winemaker and as a “pioneer” of the Paso Robles wine region. He released his first Eberle wine in 1979, a Cabernet Sauvignon, which debuted the boar logo depicting the German origin of the name Eberle, meaning small boar. We will sample:
Eberle Zinfandel 2021 — Eberle Zinfandel dances on the line of traditional hearty zin and elegance. Well balanced with up-front tannins, followed by juicy flavors of sweet fruits. Eberle Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon2021 – Grapes are sourced from several vineyards throughout the Paso Robles AVA, including the Eberle estate vineyard, which showcase the diversity and quality of the Paso Robles terroir. Flavors of black currant, dark chocolate, cherry, plum, vanilla, green peppercorn, and cedar. 14.5% ABV. Rating: 91, Wine Enthusiast. $29/10
Eberle Steinbeck Syrah 2021 – Eberle’s Steinbeck Vineyard is one of the oldest Syrah vineyards in the United States, own rooted and low yielding Blueberry, blackberry, red raspberry, plum, and generous amounts of French, American, and Hungarian oak. White pepper, savory, earthy, sweet tobacco, and violets. Balanced with a mouth-coating grip, medium tannins, and juicy.14.8% ABV. Rating: 93, Wine Enthusiast. $36.50/12
