Ever since 1452, a unique and special expression of Austrian wine culture has flourished at the centre of Krems an der Donau — Weingut Stadt Krems. Stadt Krems is among the oldest wine estates in the world that remain in operation. What makes the winery even more unique is the fact that the city of Krems is its sole proprietor. The area — Kremstal — contains one of the oldest soil formations on the planet, composed of weathered primordial rock such as gneiss, schist and amphibolite.
Stadt Krems Gruner Veltliner 2021 — Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria and produces a dry white wine with savory aromas, spicy flavors, and good acidity. Fresh-tasting with notes of green apple, lemon, radish, and arugula. 12.5% ABV. $18.99/$6.50
Stadt Krems Dry Riesling 2021 — Austrian Riesling is defined by elevated levels of dry extract thanks to a lengthy ripening period and freshness due to dramatic temperature swings between day and night. Austrian Riesling is always made in a dry style and shows aromas and flavors of ripe citrus, stone fruit, and flowers, with a persistent underpinning of minerality. 12.5% ABV. $22.99/$7.50
Located in the heart of Alto Adige in the town of Termeno, Italy, on the south side of the Alps, Tramin comprises of one of the oldest networks of farmers forming a winery. Tramin Lagrein is an indigenous grape to that very northeastern area of Italy, making a deep, dark red wine a little akin to Blaufrankisch (a primary Austrian red varietal). The winery is a cooperative of grape growers going back to 1889, and the first vintage of Lagrein they made was ten years later (in 1899).
