Benevolent Neglect is the creation of two East Coast transplants who moved west with the ambition of one day making great wine. Their philosophy is simple: find the best quality fruit and then do as little as possible to it (i.e., neglect it in the best way possible). The winery is committed to being stewards of the lands and works only with farmers that are sustainable and organic in practice. In the cellar, the winemakers aim to be transparent and additive free, and package in the most eco-friendly way possible. The winery is implementing a Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within its own operations and supply chain. They are a true small-batch winery — producing only about 900 cases per year. We will taste:
Windmill Vineyard Vermentino 2020 — Light yellow color; aromatic, floral, and fragrant on the nose with a hint of carnations. Chalky with minerality and talc. Tart with a long saline, savory finish. 12% ABV. Regularly $35.99/$12; now $32.99/$11
Windmill Vineyard Counoise Rosto 2020 — In Napa, the saying goes, "When life gives you wildfires, make Rosé.” This Rosé was forced into being picked early due to the fires. The result is a bright and savory strawberry-fueled wine. Bright acid, rhubarb, strawberry, mushroom, dried roses, beets, and red cherry all come to life on the palate. 12.8% ABV. Regularly $35.99/$12; now $32.99/$11
North Coast Red Blend/GSM 2018 — A blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, and 20% Syrah with all of the qualities of France’s best Rhône blends. Big spice, dusty, stewed fruit, cracked black pepper and hints of fresh olive oil. Fermented in Hungarian oak and the result is clove, nutmeg, fennel and a nice balance of tannins and savory notes. 14.2% ABV. Regularly $55/$18; now $46.99/$15.50
See you Friday!
