It’s been a little while since we explored France, so buckle your seatbelts! We will taste three fabulous wine from the Burgundy Region of France:
Louis Moreau Petit Chablis 2019, NW Burgundy — 100% Chardonnay. Fresh and aromatic; presents a fruity and dynamic nose with a hint of apple and citrus. It shows a nice attack at first, with a round and fresh finish on the palate. There is good density of fruit with apple acidity to counterbalance the ripeness of stone fruit. Vinified and aged in stainless steel tanks. Very good balance and enough density to age well for several years. Serve as an aperitif with fresh goat cheese. Rating: 91, Decanter. $26.99/$10
Auvigue Pouilly-Fuissé “Solutre” 2018, South Burgundy — Brothers Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue are the fifth generation of winemakers who started out in Beaujolais; their grandfather one of the first to commence domaine-bottling in the region during the 1940s. They only use organic products in the vineyards. Solutré-Pouilly is a commune in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. It is known for a local geological feature, the Rock of Solutré. Also 100% Chardonnay. The subtle nose of this wine suggests creamy apricot. Gentleness and creaminess carry over to a smooth but warm and textured palate. Freshness and a touch of pleasantly bitter pith counter the fruit and creates a bright and long finish. At first, this seems like a gentle creampuff of a chardonnay, playing richness at high volume without a lot of flavor detail. Given time, a spicy apple-skin flavor tightens around the cushioned texture and heady scents of toasted lees, as the wine’s energy begins to show. This will benefit from two years or more in the cellar. Rating: 91, Wine Enthusiast. $35.99/$13
Maison Chanzy Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018, Central Burgundy — Lively and bright from start to finish. Linear in profile, offering cherry, raspberry, spice and floral notes. Supple and balanced, with a firm, tactile finish that shows nice length. Fermented in stainless steel and aged seven months in French oak before bottling. The vineyards are farmed without the use of herbicides and pesticides, instead opting for organic fertilizers and occasional plowing between rows. Chanzy is in the process of obtaining Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification. Rating: 90, Wine Spectator. $27.99/$10
We are doing a combination of tableside and barside; we’ll just see how it goes! C’mon in when you’re ready. Please continue to select and sit at a table that matches your party size so that we can accommodate everyone.
For the time being, masks are required upon entry to the store, until you are seated, and if you need to get up (except while tasting, of course).
As always, feel free to bring snacks/dinner with you, but please dispose of your own trash (there is a garbage can at the back entrance of the store).
Thanks y’all, see you Friday!!
