The reds get a fair turn! We will taste:
Conundrum Red Blend 2018, Monterey County, California — A deep cherry red, this vintage features vibrant, round scents that suggest what it will taste like on the palate. Aromas of fresh brewed coffee mingle with baked cherry pie, milk chocolate and freshly turned earth. Cherry pie flavors carry all the way through, along with a subtle smokiness, brown spice, light wood and a hint of black pepper. The weight and texture of this wine are perfectly balanced, with granular tannins providing both a smooth and grippy character on the complete finish. Blend: Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon. $25.99/$9.00
Airfield Estates Dauntless Red Blend 2017, Yakima Valley, Washington — Gorgeous fruit characteristics of black currant and boysenberry compote intertwined with intriguing layers of cocoa. The palate is robust with secondary flavors of plums and fig with roasted herbs and a hint of black licorice. Smooth tannins and a finish that accentuates the French oak that lingers on the palate. Airfield Estates is a fourth-generation family farm based in the Yakima Valley. The winery has ties to aviation: a portion of the family property operated as a training base for hundreds of Army Air Corps pilots during World War II. Blend: 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. $22.99/$8.00
Tuck Beckstoffer Mad Hatter Dancing Hares Bordeaux Red Blend 2018, Napa Valley, California — An aromatic blend of plum, wild raspberry, fig, Maraschino cherry, and cocoa powder and a hint of baking spice. On the palate, it has bold and lively flavors with a rich mouthfeel and a long, smooth finish. Tuck is one of the few Napa stewards who is both a grower and a winemaker. It is this pedigree that makes his approach different: the process begins with the land itself and culminates with a reverence for the winemaking traditions of the past. Blend: 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot. This wine normally retails for $89.99. The winery is trying to recoup some costs from the fires in Napa last year, so have offered it on deep discount, now $44.99/$14.00.
