Spain is a large country of tremendous diversity, and even the briefest glance at its physical geography, its dramatic mountain chains in particular, will serve to explain the major regional differences created by so many natural barriers. Viticulture has been a part of the country’s culture for what seems like forever, and that is not an exaggeration. There's evidence to prove that vines were planted in the Iberian Peninsula as far back as the Tertiary period (65 million to 2.6 million years ago).

Spain, which is classified as an old-world wine country, has emerged as a major wine producer in the 21st century, rivaling other top wine-producing nations in the world. it has more land devoted to vineyards than any other European country (nearly 1 million hectares of vineyards). The Spanish wine scene is going through exciting times. The country’s 70 regions are full of dynamic, talented winemakers who are making more and more delicious and individual wines. Among red varieties, Tempranillo is by far Spain’s most recognized grape; second in the hierarchy of Spanish wine is Cava, a sparkling wine made using the classic Champagne method. During this Pairing, we will taste and discuss these varietals as well a five other arguably lesser-known wines.

Join us as wine expert, Chris Curtis of Winebow, returns to lead the exploration of SEVEN fantastic wines from around the country. Chris was in Spain just last fall and has the scoope on all things Spanish wine!

Once again, this event is a Wine and Cheese Pairing! South Slope Cheese Shop (Asheville) will pair a delicious cheese with each wine. Everyone will have their own cheese plate with accoutrements.

Cost: $60 per person, plus $3 service fee for online booking.
The wines featured will be offered at 10% off single bottles, 20% off cases at the event. Additional glasses of wine will be available for purchase as well.
