The Easter Bunny, egg hunts, and coloring eggs may be intended for kids, but the adults can take back the Easter baskets. Join us for our first-ever Easter Candy and Wine Pairing:
Peeps and Prosecco — The bunny-shaped marshmallow candies, which are now synonymous with Easter, once required an astonishing 27 hours to create. Thanks to automation, the process now takes just 6 minutes per Peep. Peeps are undeniably sweet and fluffy, so they need to be paired with a wine that is sweet and not too structured. A sparkling wine pairs well with the mild taste and airy texture of the marshmallow. Zardetto Prosecco Brut — elegant, refined bubbles that form a hearty white froth. Aromas of white flowers, apricot and herbs create a delicately soft bouquet. The palate is comprised of citrus, orange blossoms and stone fruits. Fresh citrus and floral notes linger on the finish. 11.5% ABV. $17.50/6.50.
Jelly Beans and Sauvignon Blanc — Legend has it that the earliest documented mention of the jellybean was in a Civil War-era ad. The circa-1861 advertisement supposedly promoted sending the bean-shaped candy to Union Army soldiers. It wasn’t until the 1930s that jellybeans became a prominent part of Easter baskets. California Sauv Blancs tend to be crisp and lean, and balance the sugary sweetness of the jelly beans. Round Pond Estate Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc 2022 — aromatic notes of white peach and lime with a hint of herbaceous Thai basil. Juicy, bright flavors of lychee and pink grapefruit are complemented with a wet stone minerality and perfectly balanced acidity. A mid-palate richness leads to a long, clean finish. 13.5% ABV. $35/12.
Robins Eggs and Gamay — Robin Eggs have become an Easter staple and are only available during Easter season. They are actually all handcrafted, so no two eggs look the same. These candies don’t have a big chocolate punch — they are delicate; a wine that is too heavy would overtake the candy like a teenager at an Easter Egg Hunt. A light-bodied and easy-drinking wine like a Gamay a great pairing for these lightweight goodies. Julien Sunier Wild Soul Gamay 2022 — a juicy and fruit-driven red with notes of red cherries, blueberries and thyme on the nose. Fresh and bright. 12.5% ABV. $29/10.
The cost is $8.50/person and includes a 2oz pour of each wine and the matching candy. Wines are also available by the glass and bottle. C’mon in when you’re ready; no reservation needed. See you Friday!
