Sanctuary Vineyards is located on a quaint seaside farm where rows of corn compete with Cabernet and migratory snow geese nest among the Sangiovese. Ten acres of grapes are nestled among hundreds of acres of farmland and wildlife impoundments. For seven generations, the Wright Family has called coastal Currituck County home. Much has changed since original settler Jacob Wright shipwrecked on the shores of Duck, when vineyards usually consisted of a single muscadine vine in the backyard.
We will taste:
Pearl Albarino 2019 — Handcrafted from 78% Albarino, a Spanish white grape that has found a home in Currituck County, and 22% Viognier. The winery considers it its boldest and most complex white selection. Nuances of melon, peach and tropical fruit aromas accompany lemon zest and ripe apricots on the palate. $24.99/$9
Wildflowers Rosé 2019 — A full-bodied Rosé made with Tannat and Syrah. Balanced acidity and luscious flavors of cherry, raspberry and rhubarb. $21.99/$8
Double Barrel Red Blend 2017 — Double Barrel is an estate-grown blend of 50% Tannat and 50% Petit Verdot. Rich deep hues of inky violet and deep garnet; aromas of ripe berries, currant, jam, vanilla and smoky leather form a rich and powerful bouquet. Blackberry jam, plum preserves and raspberries are forward on the palate. Drink over the next 5 to 10 years. $39.99/$10
As always, feel free to bring snacks/dinner with you, but please dispose of your own trash (there is a trash can at the back entrance). St. Lucio’s Gourmet and Cheese is open inside the store for your cheese needs.
See y’all Friday!
